Fidelity Bank Supports Maternal, Child Healthcare at ESUTH, Clears Bills for Indigent Patients

Fidelity Bank Plc has strengthened maternal and child healthcare delivery at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH), Parklane, through the settlement of medical bills for indigent patients, financial support for children battling chronic illnesses, and the donation of ante-natal kits to expectant mothers.

The intervention was carried out under the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP). It was funded and implemented by newly inducted employees of the bank, known as the Optimizers Inductees Class, as their community impact project, with matching financial support from Fidelity Bank.

Speaking during the outreach, the Divisional Head, Brand and Communications Division, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to improving lives through focused social interventions aligned with its four CSR pillars.

According to him, Fidelity Bank remains dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities where it operates, beyond the provision of financial services. He explained that the intervention targeted pregnant women with ante-natal kits and assisted indigent patients who had remained in hospital due to unpaid medical bills, while also offering additional support to children requiring long-term medical care.

Dr. Nwagboh described the outreach as timely and significant, noting that it would enable many families to reunite and celebrate the festive season without the burden of outstanding hospital debts. He also wished the beneficiaries speedy recovery and good health.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, the Chief Matron of the Children’s Ward, Mrs. Esther Nnaji, expressed appreciation to Fidelity Bank for the gesture, describing it as a lifeline for families struggling with rising healthcare costs.

She noted that several children admitted at the facility were battling cancer, sickle cell disease and other chronic conditions, adding that the bank’s intervention would ease the pain and emotional distress faced by affected families. According to her, the support would allow some children to reunite with their families after prolonged hospital stays.

Beneficiaries of the intervention also expressed gratitude to the bank. Mrs. Adaeze Ilo, whose baby’s medical bill was fully settled, said the assistance came at a time when her family had exhausted all options.

Similarly, Mrs. Jane Anthony, whose son’s hospital bill was cleared, said her family had resigned to spending the Christmas season in the hospital before the bank’s intervention brought relief and hope.

The outreach to ESUTH, Parklane, further underscores Fidelity Bank’s sustained commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and promoting community well-being across Nigeria through people-focused and community-driven CSR initiatives.
