FRSC Confirms Tanker Explosion in Lagos, No Casualties Recorded

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, has confirmed a tanker explosion that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, December 17, 2025, along the Temu–Sabo route at the Bypass Pobona area of Epe, Lagos State.

In a statement issued by the Sector Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander (SRC) Oluwadamilola Jayeola, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), the incident was reported to have occurred at about 2:05 a.m., with FRSC operatives receiving the distress call at 2:10 a.m. Officers from the Epe Unit Command promptly responded and arrived at the scene within minutes.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident involved a commercial MACK tanker and five other vehicles, bringing the total number of affected vehicles to six. The explosion was attributed to brake failure, which led to loss of control and a lone crash.

Although two adult occupants were involved, the FRSC confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

Following the incident, FRSC operatives immediately established traffic control measures to prevent secondary crashes. The Corps also worked in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and the Lagos State Fire Service, which successfully contained and extinguished the fire.

A private tow truck was placed on standby to ensure the swift recovery of the affected vehicles and the prompt clearance of the road to restore normal traffic flow.

Reacting to the development, the Sector Commander, FRSC Lagos Sector Command, Corps Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, advised motorists—especially operators of heavy-duty vehicles—to prioritize regular vehicle maintenance, with particular attention to braking systems, before embarking on any journey.

The FRSC Lagos Sector Command reaffirmed its commitment to prompt emergency response, effective traffic management, and the safety of all road users across the state.
