LSSTF Sets Up Monitoring Team to Strengthen Oversight of Security Assets

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has constituted a dedicated Monitoring Team to ensure strict oversight, accountability, and proper utilization of public resources provided to security agencies operating in Lagos State.

The move, according to the Fund, is aimed at guaranteeing that all security agencies benefiting from LSSTF support remain responsible and responsive to the public trust placed in them. The Monitoring Team has been issued clear guidelines outlining its roles, responsibilities, performance benchmarks, and reporting expectations.

The development follows a recent pledge by the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the LSSTF, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, who, during a Strategic Media Parley with senior editors and media executives, vowed to end the abuse and misuse of public resources.

The media engagement, which held at the LSSTF Headquarters on December 5, 2025, provided an opportunity for Dr. Ogunsan to outline his leadership vision anchored on transparency, accountability, and public confidence.

“Public confidence in the Fund is essential. Under my leadership, transparency will be the standard, not the exception. We will maintain strict oversight on contractor performance, monitor all funded projects closely, publish updates on the utilization of donations, strengthen internal governance and reporting, and deepen stakeholder communication and feedback mechanisms,” he said.

With the Monitoring Team now in place, Dr. Ogunsan has issued a clear mandate that includes tracking and monitoring vehicles and other security assets, particularly those deployed to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS); conducting routine field inspections to assess the condition and usage of Fund-provided assets; maintaining accurate records and operational reports; and evaluating the application of assets as a prerequisite for further allocations to security agencies.

Other responsibilities include monitoring repairs and refurbishments undertaken by the Fund, as well as carrying out additional duties as may be assigned from time to time.

The LSSTF also disclosed that the formal inauguration of the Monitoring Team, alongside the public presentation of a dedicated monitoring vehicle to support its operations, will be held in the coming days.

The initiative, observers note, underscores the Fund’s renewed commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective management of resources dedicated to enhancing security across Lagos State.
