Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Moves to Address Persistent Power Outage, Engages Ikeja Electric for Lasting Solution
The leadership of the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA) has assured residents that it is actively working with Ikeja Electric to resolve the prolonged power outage affecting several communities within the council.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the council acknowledged the discomfort and disruption the outage has caused for households and businesses, expressing appreciation to residents who have raised concerns in a peaceful and constructive manner.
According to the council, the electricity challenge stems from limitations in the national grid, which have reduced supply to multiple parts of Lagos State. Officials of Ikeja Electric reportedly confirmed that the issue is not peculiar to IBLCDA but part of a wider supply shortfall.
To fast-track a solution, the Executive Chairman of IBLCDA, Omoba Hammed Aroyewun, recently visited the Ikeja Electric headquarters, where he held a detailed meeting with the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Folake Soetan. During the engagement, the chairman conveyed the frustrations of residents and pressed for urgent measures. The CEO assured him that restoration efforts were ongoing and that residents should expect improvements soon.
The council also referenced the peaceful protest led by the Community Development Committee (CDC) on November 11, 2025, at the Alogba Business Unit. During the protest, Ikeja Electric officials explained that the 150 MVA transformer at Egbin, which powers several communities including those in IBLCDA, had developed a major fault. They further disclosed that a new 300 MVA transformer was being procured from Germany to replace the damaged unit. Once installed, the upgrade is expected to significantly enhance power distribution across the area.
IBLCDA emphasized that the chairman and CDC have remained in constant communication with Ikeja Electric to ensure the promised interventions are delivered without delay, stressing that the administration has not been passive or indifferent to the plight of residents.
The council urged the public to disregard narratives suggesting inaction from either the chairman or the CDC, insisting such claims do not reflect the ongoing engagements or realities on ground.
Reiterating his commitment to community welfare, Chairman Aroyewun pledged to continue working closely with the electricity provider until power is fully restored. The administration, the statement added, will also sustain ongoing development projects across critical sectors to improve the quality of life for residents.
