Lagos Mobile Court Remands Six Over Violent Attack on LASTMA Officials Along Airport Road

The Lagos State Mobile Court has ordered the remand of six suspected miscreants arrested for a violent attack on officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other government agencies during a midnight enforcement operation along Airport Road, Lagos.

The suspects, seven in total, were arraigned on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, before a Chief Magistrate of the Lagos State Mobile Court on four-count charges. Following their arraignment, the court adjourned the case to February 19, 2026, for further hearing. One of the defendants, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail, while the remaining six were remanded in custody.

The enforcement exercise was personally led by the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, in collaboration with other government agencies, including security operatives, the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Corps, the Lagos State Task Force and LASTMA field officers.

The operation followed a series of formal complaints from the Nigerian Airport Authority (NPA) over persistent illegal activities and encroachment on its facilities by criminal syndicates and non-compliant commercial bus operators operating along the airport corridor.

According to the NPA, the activities of the suspected miscreants had become a major public nuisance, characterised by harassment, intimidation and the dispossession of unsuspecting road users, while also constituting an eyesore around the strategic airport environment.

During the operation, five officers of the joint task force were reportedly attacked with dangerous weapons, while one of LASTMA’s tow trucks was deliberately set ablaze in an attempt to disrupt the exercise and undermine state authority.

Despite the attack, officers involved in the operation reportedly displayed professionalism and restraint while restoring order and securing the area.

A total of 56 vehicles were impounded for various traffic and environmental offences, including 44 commercial buses, five private vehicles and seven trucks.

Reacting to the incident, Mr. Bakare-Oki reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure, ensuring the safety of road users and maintaining law and order across the state.

He warned that the government would not tolerate acts of violence or intimidation by criminal elements, stressing that all forms of lawlessness would be met with decisive legal action.

The LASTMA General Manager further assured residents that enforcement operations along critical corridors across Lagos would remain continuous and intensified, in collaboration with sister agencies, to curb criminality and safeguard lives and property.
