Lagos Police Arrest Social Media Influencer ‘Peller’ Over Reckless Driving, Launch Investigation

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained a social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a viral video in which he was seen driving recklessly while live-streaming, an action that reportedly resulted in a serious road crash.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), the police said the incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

According to the statement, the influencer’s actions endangered his life and that of other road users, describing the conduct as a deliberate and dangerous act that could amount to an attempted suicide.

“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat, also known as ‘Peller’, following a viral video that surfaced online in which he was seen driving recklessly while live-streaming, leading to a dangerous road crash and serious motor accident,” the statement read.

The Command disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation, adding that the outcome of the probe will be made public.

It further stated that the suspect would be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in line with existing laws.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has warned social media influencers, content creators and members of the public against using digital platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous or criminal acts.

He stressed that such conduct would not be tolerated, assuring that the full weight of the law would be applied to offenders.

The police also urged motorists and other road users to strictly comply with traffic regulations, reiterating the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property and public peace across the state.
