NCC Explains Abuja Network Outages, Assures Subscribers of Imminent Service Restoration

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged the service disruptions currently affecting telecommunications subscribers in Abuja and has assured the public that decisive steps are being taken to restore optimal network performance.

The Commission said the quality of service (QoS) challenges being experienced across parts of the Federal Capital Territory are largely due to disruptions in diesel supply to base stations operated by IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation company that provides power to facilities used by major operators, including MTN and Airtel.

In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs at the NCC, Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, the Commission disclosed that the situation was triggered by the activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which disrupted diesel deliveries to critical telecom sites. This development, the NCC said, resulted in widespread service outages in affected areas of Abuja.

Reaffirming its commitment to seamless communication services nationwide, the Commission stressed that reliable power supply is essential to the efficient delivery of telecommunications services. It added that it is working closely with key stakeholders and licensees to resolve the diesel supply challenges impacting telecom infrastructure.

According to the NCC, active engagements are ongoing with all relevant parties to address the bottlenecks and explore more sustainable solutions to prevent a recurrence. The Commission urged stakeholders to cooperate in removing obstacles to diesel supply to enable the swift restoration of services disrupted by the recent actions of NOGASA.

The NCC further assured subscribers that it is facilitating dialogue between affected service providers and other stakeholders, while closely monitoring developments to ensure rapid resolution of the issue. It pledged to keep the public informed on progress made toward restoring full telecommunications services in Abuja.
