Lagos Police Impound Bus, Probe Officer Over Viral Encounter with Conductor

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video showing a police officer struggling to restrain a naked commercial bus conductor on Ikorodu Road.

In a statement e-signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), police authorities said the incident stemmed from an attempt to arrest the conductor over obstruction of public officials, including police and LASTMA personnel.

According to the statement, the driver of the commercial bus allegedly used the vehicle to block traffic flow, causing gridlock and hardship to motorists in the Ikorodu area. During the attempt to arrest the conductor, he reportedly stripped himself naked to evade arrest—an act that led to the viral footage.

SP Adebisi confirmed that the police officer involved has been identified and is currently under investigation to assess the appropriateness of his actions. The conductor has also been invited for questioning before the Commissioner of Police on Monday, while the bus has been impounded pending further inquiries.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, called on residents to remain law-abiding and report any violation of their rights by police personnel, assuring the public that justice will be served. However, he condemned the dramatization of the incident, noting that resisting lawful arrest remains a criminal offence.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and ensuring that police conduct aligns with the law.
