NAOSNP honours FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed with Road Safety Champion Award

The National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) has presented the 2025 Road Safety Champion Award to the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mallam Shehu Mohammed. The honour, bestowed during the NAOSNP National Conference and Awards in Lagos, recognises his aggressive transformation agenda in road transportation safety and consistent advocacy for safer road environments across Nigeria.

Speaking at the ceremony, NAOSNP National President, Mayor Oki Samson, highlighted the increasing responsibility of the media—especially online security news platforms—in shaping public awareness and strengthening national resilience amid evolving security challenges, misinformation, and rapid technological change. He underscored the media’s role in national security discourse and called for stronger collaboration between media professionals and security agencies to ensure accurate, responsible, and timely reporting.

According to him, the event represents more than dialogue; it reinforces the partnership between institutions safeguarding the country and stakeholders shaping public opinion. He urged the award recipients to uphold patriotism and dedication in the discharge of their duties, stressing that national progress depends on collective commitment and collaboration.

Delivering the keynote address, former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, represented by Air Vice Marshal Bashir Rimi Mamman, emphasized the critical link between security, governance, and national development. He called for unity, responsible journalism, and collective action to secure Nigeria’s future, noting that the media remains central to reinforcing national security objectives.

Also speaking, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 2 Lagos, Adegoke Fayoade, framed security as the foundation of economic stability and resource protection. Addressing the conference theme, “Securing and Safeguarding Nigeria’s Economic Resources,” AIG Fayoade stressed the importance of aligning security operations with economic priorities, strengthening identity and information systems, and fostering cross-sector partnerships. He added that both tangible resources—such as infrastructure, ports, and commodities—and intangible resources like investor confidence and revenue flows require multidimensional protection strategies.

The FRSC award was received on behalf of the Corps Marshal by the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat. Mohammed reiterated that transportation remains central to Nigeria’s infrastructure, linking people, goods, and services nationwide. He warned that road traffic crashes continue to disrupt supply chains and increase operational costs within the transport sector.

He reaffirmed FRSC’s commitment to enforcing transportation safety reforms, as government at all levels invests in infrastructure and combats systemic corruption. Mohammed further appealed to the media to intensify public awareness on road safety issues, uphold professionalism, and maintain integrity in reportage. He dedicated the honour to hardworking FRSC personnel nationwide.

The event also saw the presentation of the NAOSNP “Best Security Agency Spokesperson of the Year” award to the FRSC Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide.

Dignitaries in attendance included representatives of the former Chief of Defence Staff; the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam; AIG Zone 2 Lagos, Adegoke Fayoade; and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, among other security and public sector stakeholders.

Over the years, the NAOSNP National Security Conference and Awards has grown into the largest media-organised security forum in Nigeria, attracting leading voices across public and private sectors of the nation’s security architecture.
