Gaidam urges Nigeria Police Academy graduands to embrace discipline and service to humanity

The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has urged new police officers to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and service to humanity as they begin their careers in law enforcement.

Gaidam made the charge during the convocation ceremony of Regular Courses 1 to 7 of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano. He was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya Nlia, according to a statement made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).

“The badge they wear is not merely a symbol of authority; it is a reminder of the trust the Nigerian people place in them,” Gaidam stated. He urged the graduands to conduct themselves with transparency, accountability, respect for human rights, and strict adherence to the rule of law.

The Minister described the Academy as a vital institution in Nigeria’s security framework, producing officers equipped with world-class knowledge, ethical grounding, and operational competence. He emphasized that the convocation was not only a celebration of academic success but also a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to building a modern, highly skilled, and professional Police Force.

He noted that the graduands would be joining the Force at a time when Nigeria faces multifaceted security threats, including insurgency, banditry, cybercrime, kidnapping, and violent extremism. Despite the enormity of the challenges, he expressed confidence that their training has prepared them to tackle these issues with professionalism, courage, and sound judgment.

Gaidam further reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to reforming and repositioning the Nigeria Police Force. He highlighted several priority areas, including policy reforms, strategic capacity-building, improved welfare packages, enhanced training infrastructure, and technology-driven policing.

The Minister congratulated the graduands, their families, and everyone who supported them throughout their academic journey. He also commended the Commandant, academy management, faculty, instructors, and support staff for their dedication to grooming the next generation of police leaders.
