Olowa announces new security measures in Ibeju-Lekki

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has announced a series of immediate security measures aimed at addressing rising safety concerns across the local government area.

The directives followed a security briefing with relevant agencies and take effect immediately.

Under the new measures, commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as okada riders, are now permitted to operate only between 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. The council also approved the computerized registration of all commercial motorcyclists, alongside the introduction of uniforms and official stickers to ensure proper identification.

As part of efforts to reduce security risks, shanties and illegal structures within communities will be removed by the Lagos State Government in collaboration with the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government. Security agencies have also been directed to intensify the fight against cultism across the area.

In addition, groups and communities intending to organise street carnivals must now obtain police permits before such events can hold. Illegal toll collection at Eleko Junction has been outlawed, with offenders warned to expect the full weight of the law.

The Ibeju-Lekki Community Corps has also been directed to resume strict enforcement against the dumping of refuse on roads and beaches. Offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with Lagos State environmental laws.

According to the council, enforcement of the new directives will commence within 24 hours, with security teams already deployed across strategic locations. A coordinated task force comprising security agencies and local enforcement officers will oversee compliance.

Hon. Olowa urged residents, business owners and community leaders to cooperate with authorities and report suspicious activities. He reiterated that the protection of lives and property remains the administration’s top priority, assuring residents of the council’s commitment to strengthening security across Ibeju-Lekki.
