Olowa presents ₦15.17bn 2026 budget to Ibeju-Lekki legislative council

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has presented a proposed ₦15.17 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the 10th Legislative Council, outlining his administration’s development priorities for the coming fiscal year.

The budget, tagged “Budget of Renewed and Resilient Development,” was presented during a plenary session at the Legislative Council Chambers in the council secretariat. According to the chairman, the proposal is designed to strengthen economic resilience, renew critical infrastructure and promote inclusive growth in the rapidly expanding local government.

With an estimated total of ₦15,172,250,000, the budget allocates ₦5.53 billion (36.45 per cent) to security and general public services, ₦3.77 billion (24.83 per cent) to infrastructure, ₦2.6 billion (17.14 per cent) to digital governance and civic participation, and ₦1.31 billion (8.66 per cent) to the education sector. Other allocations include ₦770 million (5.08 per cent) for health, ₦730 million (4.81 per cent) for the environment, and ₦460 million (3.03 per cent) for local economic development.

Hon. Olowa said the theme of the budget reflects both the current realities and future ambitions of Ibeju-Lekki, noting that the area has transformed from a quiet coastal corridor into one of the fastest-growing regions in Lagos State. He added that the growth in population, businesses and communities has increased the responsibility on government to plan and deliver sustainable services.

“We chose this theme because it reflects our reality and our ambition. Renewal speaks to our readiness to adapt to the evolving needs of our people, while resilience represents our commitment to building systems strong enough to support the future already unfolding across Ibeju-Lekki,” the chairman said.

The session was presided over by the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Mojeed Olayinka, with all council members present, including the Deputy Leader, Hon. Musbau Shuaib, the Majority Leader, Hon. Zainab Eletu, and other lawmakers. Hon. Olayinka commended the executive arm for the timely presentation and highlighted key achievements of the administration, including the construction of administrative and legislative buildings, renovation of primary schools, and upgrades of primary healthcare centres.

He assured that the council would subject the budget to thorough legislative scrutiny while ensuring its prompt passage. “This budget aligns with our collective aspirations for the development of Ibeju-Lekki. We are ready to collaborate for its smooth implementation ahead of the 2026 fiscal year,” he said.

The presentation continues Hon. Olowa’s reform-driven leadership since his inauguration in 2021. Stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders and civil society groups, have commended the administration for its emphasis on people-focused governance.

The Legislative Council is expected to begin deliberations immediately, with passage anticipated before the end of the year to allow seamless implementation from January 2026.
