The Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has inaugurated a high-powered Local Security Committee as part of renewed efforts to strengthen the safety of lives and property across the council area.

The inauguration ceremony took place on Monday at the Exco Chambers, BAT House, Council Secretariat, Igando-Oloja, and reflects the administration’s firm commitment to security as a core component of its S.H.I.E.E.L.D. development agenda.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Olowa described security as the foundation of sustainable growth and community development, stressing that no society can thrive in an environment of fear or instability.

“No meaningful growth can occur in an atmosphere of fear or insecurity. This committee will work closely with traditional rulers, community leaders and Community Development Associations to drive community-based security initiatives. If successfully implemented, these efforts will significantly improve safety across Ibeju-Lekki,” he said.

The committee is made up of experienced stakeholders drawn from various sectors and is mandated to promote intelligence gathering within communities, as well as oversee the enumeration and identification of commercial motorcycle operators (okada) through the use of official stickers.

Hon. Olowa urged members of the committee to discharge their duties with patriotism, diligence and a sense of urgency, assuring them of the full support of the local government. He also called on residents to cooperate by providing timely information and supporting government initiatives aimed at ensuring a safer environment.

The committee has been given a one-month timeline to carry out its assignment and submit its report.

The initiative is expected to enhance community policing, improve coordination among stakeholders and reinforce proactive security measures across the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area.
