Ọnwa Dezemba: Soludo Unveils Christmas Festival Line-Up in Anambra

The Anambra State Government, under the leadership of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has unveiled a comprehensive schedule of events for “Ọnwa Dezemba,” a special Christmas festival designed to make the December 2025 holiday season memorable for Ndi Anambra.

The month-long celebration, according to the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, blends culture, entertainment, youth engagement, sports and wellness, reflecting the administration’s commitment to promoting unity and showcasing Anambra’s rich heritage.

Activities will kick off on December 18 with #OnwaDezemba City Block, a youth-focused event dedicated to Generation Z, featuring music, live performances and other entertainment. The event will hold at 6:00 p.m. at the Awka City Stadium, by Solution Fun City.

On December 20, the festival continues with the #OnwaDezemba Christmas Carol (Cankata), scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

Children take centre stage on December 25 with the #OnwaDezemba Children’s Christmas Festival, holding at 2:00 p.m. at Solution Fun City.

Cultural displays will dominate the programme on December 27, as the #OnwaDezemba Ịgba Mmanwụ Festival takes place at 2:00 p.m. at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, before moving to Ekwulobia Township Stadium on December 28, also by 2:00 p.m.

Sports and entertainment will feature prominently on December 29, with the #OnwaDezemba Novelty Match kicking off at 2:00 p.m. at Awka Township Stadium. On the same day, the Ịgba Mmanwụ Festival will thrill residents of Onitsha, starting at 2:00 p.m. at Ezechima Primary School.

A major highlight of the celebrations comes up on December 30, with the #OnwaDezemba Flavour Home Coming Concert, where renowned Anambra-born music star Flavour N’abanịá will perform live at Solution Fun City from 5:00 p.m.

The festival extends into the new year with activities promoting healthy living and entertainment. On January 3, the #OnwaDezemba Walk for Life will commence at 7:00 a.m. from Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, followed later in the day by #OnwaDezemba LOL (Laugh Out Loud) Anambra, a stand-up comedy show scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Solution Fun City.

The celebrations will wrap up on January 4 with the #OnwaDezemba All-White Old School Night, a retro-themed party encouraging all-white outfits and classic music, holding at 6:00 p.m. at Solution Fun City.

According to the state government, the Ọnwa Dezemba festival is aimed at providing residents and visitors with a vibrant and inclusive Christmas experience, while promoting Anambra’s cultural identity, tourism and entertainment economy.
