Atilola Storms into 2026 as Nigeria’s U-14 Tennis Queen

Nigeria’s teenage tennis sensation, Mofifunoluwa Atilola, has begun 2026 in commanding fashion, emerging as the country’s top-ranked U-14 female player and one of Africa’s brightest young prospects.

According to the latest rankings released by the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT), the Lagos-based prodigy is now 15th in Africa and second in West Africa, underlining her rapid rise and growing influence on the continental junior circuit.

Born in 2013, Atilola’s ascent has been nothing short of remarkable. Over the past year, she has dominated the domestic scene, sweeping almost every major junior tournament she contested in Nigeria. Her transition to international competitions has also been seamless, with strong performances that confirm her ability to compete at a high level beyond home soil.

Atilola leads a promising group of Nigerian girls making their mark in Africa. Thirteen-year-old Rorisa Jatto is ranked 39th, Emmanuella Kwange sits 44th, while Dabira Oluwaseyi completes the Nigerian presence at 134th on the continental U-14 rankings.

In contrast, Nigeria’s boys’ category tells a different story. The country currently has no players listed in the African U-14 boys’ rankings, following the exit of former West African number one Chukwudubem Amasiani, who has aged out of the division. His departure has left a noticeable gap and heightened the need for emerging talents to rise and restore Nigeria’s competitiveness on the boys’ side.

As the new season gathers momentum, attention will be firmly fixed on Atilola’s quest to break into Africa’s Top 10, while stakeholders also look to the grassroots for the next male standout capable of ending Nigeria’s current rankings drought.
