Ikorodu Group Demands Lagos Governorship Slot in 2027, Calls for Power Shift

A socio-political advocacy group under the banner of the Ikorodu Governance Initiative has renewed calls for an indigene of Ikorodu Division to emerge as the next Governor of Lagos State in the 2027 general election.

In a statement dated January 12, 2026, the group noted that Ikorodu, one of the five divisions of Lagos State under the IBILE framework, remains one of only two divisions—alongside Badagry—yet to produce a governor since the state’s creation.

The group appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), members of the Governors Advisory Council (GAC), as well as religious, traditional, and political leaders, to support what it described as a fair and legitimate demand for equity, inclusion, and recognition of Ikorodu’s political contributions.

According to the statement, Ikorodu has consistently played a significant role in the electoral successes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the last three election cycles and possesses numerous qualified sons and daughters capable of steering the affairs of Lagos State.

“We believe it is time for Ikorodu to take the helm of leadership in Lagos State. This advocacy will continue until the agenda is actualised,” the group stated, stressing that its demand is rooted in fairness and justice.

The initiative also disclosed plans to engage prominent Ikorodu indigenes and residents in the coming weeks, culminating in a World Press Conference aimed at amplifying the call on both national and international platforms.

Describing the movement as a collective struggle, the group added, “An injury to one is an injury to all,” while reaffirming its commitment to sustained advocacy until its objective is achieved.

The statement was jointly signed by Prince Adewale Samson, Convener of the Ikorodu Governance Initiative; Comrade Shola Omolola, Co-Convener; Barrister Kayode Alabi, Legal Adviser; and Prince Adekunle Lateef Adegoroye, Treasurer.
