First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Assures Nigerians of Peace, Prosperity in 2026, Welcomes First Baby of the Year
The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed optimism that 2026 will be a year of peace and prosperity for the nation, as she commenced the new year with visits to new mothers at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja.
Senator Tinubu, who was accompanied by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulieman-Ibrahim; and the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Hajia Mariya Mahmoud, welcomed the “First Baby of the Year”—a baby girl born at exactly midnight on January 1 to a 26-year-old first-time mother, Ms. Adakole Patience.
During the visit, the First Lady also celebrated Mrs. Blessing Oragwu, who delivered triplets—two boys and a girl—on December 29, 2025, after 13 years of marriage. Senator Tinubu presented the families with gifts in commemoration of the joyful occasion.
Speaking on the significance of the births, the First Lady expressed gratitude to God for the privilege of witnessing the new year and for Nigerians who made it into 2026. She described the birth of the first baby, a girl, as symbolic and expressed hope that the year would usher in peace and prosperity across the country.
She urged Nigerians, particularly women, to approach the new year with faith, resilience and generosity, noting that Nigerian women are hardworking and divinely endowed to succeed. Senator Tinubu encouraged women to pursue their aspirations without fear, advising them to start small and grow steadily rather than being discouraged by a lack of capital.
The First Lady also called for intentional generosity in 2026, encouraging Nigerians to support the less privileged as a pathway to shared prosperity. She described the year as one that should be marked by compassion and giving.
She further directed Nigerians to her podcast, Daughters of Zelophehad, where she shared a more extensive message for the new year.
