Ibeju-Lekki LG Hosts Sahara Group Foundation Ahead of Recycling Hub Launch
The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has expressed readiness to partner with the Sahara Group Foundation on the establishment of a recycling hub aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and economic empowerment within the council area.
The Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, received a delegation from the Sahara Group Foundation, led by its Programmes Manager, Mrs. Folashade Adebanjo, during a courtesy visit to the council secretariat on Thursday.
Discussions at the meeting focused on the proposed launch date and operational framework of the Sahara Recycling Hub to be sited in Ibeju-Lekki. The facility is designed to enable residents to exchange recyclable materials such as plastics, paper and other reusable waste for cash incentives, thereby encouraging responsible waste management while creating additional sources of income for households.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Olowa described the initiative as timely and in line with his administration’s drive for a cleaner and greener environment. He commended the Sahara Group Foundation for expanding its recycling programme across Lagos State, noting that the project would empower residents by turning waste into economic value and supporting the growth of a circular economy in the area.
In her remarks, Mrs. Adebanjo thanked the council chairman for the warm reception and assured him of the Foundation’s commitment to working closely with the local government to ensure the success of the project. She said the recycling hub would contribute significantly to reducing environmental pollution, while also promoting job creation and financial inclusion for residents of Ibeju-Lekki.
The proposed recycling hub is expected to further strengthen community-based environmental initiatives and support sustainable development efforts within the local government.
