Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Intensifies Refuse Evacuation to Clear Environmental Blackspots

The Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has intensified efforts to address environmental sanitation challenges with the evacuation of refuse from identified blackspots across Igbogbo.

The exercise, carried out on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, by the Department of Environmental Health Services, was initiated following a directive from the LCDA Chairman, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, as part of the administration’s drive to promote a cleaner and healthier environment.

The intervention targeted long-standing refuse hotspots that pose health risks to residents and diminish the aesthetic appeal of the community.

Speaking during the exercise, the Head of Environmental Health Services, Mrs. Comfort Akindunbi, expressed concern over the rising incidence of indiscriminate waste disposal, particularly the conversion of undeveloped plots into illegal dumpsites. She warned that such practices expose residents to preventable health hazards and undermine ongoing environmental management efforts.

According to her, the removal of refuse from environmental blackspots remains a critical step toward discouraging environmental abuse and safeguarding public health. She also commended the Chairman for his proactive leadership, stressing that a clean environment is essential for a healthy society.

Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Hon. Wasiu Olowu, highlighted the adverse effects of refuse blackspots on both community well-being and environmental sustainability. He urged residents to regard environmental cleanliness as a collective civic responsibility and called on them to report individuals who violate environmental laws by dumping refuse along roads, open lands, or public spaces.

The council officials further appealed to residents to take ownership of their surroundings and promptly alert the council to environmental concerns. They assured the public that the council remains open and responsive to complaints, feedback, and suggestions.

The LCDA reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with residents to achieve a cleaner, safer, and more livable Igbogbo/Baiyeku community.
