IGP Egbetokun Deploys DIG Gumel to Head Force Intelligence, Posts 17 New CPs to Strategic Commands

In a major strategic reshuffle aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s internal security framework, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the deployment of a Deputy Inspector-General of Police and 17 newly promoted Commissioners of Police to critical commands and formations nationwide.

The redeployment, which takes immediate effect, involves DIG Mohammed Usaini Gumel and the Commissioners of Police recently elevated and decorated with their new ranks.

According to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, and obtained by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), the postings are designed to enhance operational effectiveness, strengthen leadership capacity, improve public safety, and ensure efficient service delivery across the country.

As part of the exercise, DIG Mohammed Usaini Gumel has been deployed as the Head of the Force Intelligence Department (FID), a key arm of the Nigeria Police Force responsible for intelligence gathering, counter-terrorism, and proactive crime prevention—underscoring the IGP’s renewed focus on intelligence-driven policing.

Several Commissioners of Police have been assigned to state commands with notable security concerns. CP Aina Adesola has been posted to the Delta State Command, CP Umar Mohammed Hajedia to Kebbi State Command, while CP Iyamah Daniel Edobor takes over the Bayelsa State Command.

The reshuffle also includes strategic postings to specialised police formations. CP Johnson Baba Lola has been deployed to the Special Enquiries Bureau, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja. CP Osagie John Agans-Irabor will now head the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit in Lagos, CP Cyril Uchenna Obiozo has been appointed Commissioner of Police, Maritime Command, Lagos, while CP Lasisi Titilola will oversee the Railway Command, Lagos.

Other key appointments include CP Audu Garba Bosso as head of General Investigations at the FCID Annex, Kaduna, and CP Alhaji Mohammed Danlandi as Commander of the X-Squad in Kaduna, the police unit responsible for internal discipline and anti-corruption enforcement.

Additional deployments were made to police training institutions and administrative departments, including the Police Colleges in Kaduna and Ikeja, the Police Staff College in Jos, as well as key Force Headquarters departments such as Community Policing, Safer Highway, and the Investment Office.

IGP Egbetokun, while charging the senior officers, stressed the importance of purposeful, professional, and result-oriented leadership. He urged them to deploy their wealth of experience in discharging their duties, uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct, and ensure strict adherence to the rule of law in the discharge of their responsibilities.
