LASTMA Rescues Trapped Driver in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Ikorodu Road; Hon. Giwa Urges Road Safety Awareness
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has once again demonstrated its readiness and life-saving capability following a serious multi-vehicle accident earlier today on the Ojota inbound Ketu axis of Ikorodu Road, involving three vehicles.
According to initial reports, a Toyota Sienna (KRD 311 JH) slowed down to allow pedestrians to cross safely, with a mini truck positioned behind it. Unfortunately, a Volkswagen commercial bus, reportedly speeding out of control, collided violently with the two stationary vehicles, triggering a serious accident.
The impact left the bus driver trapped in the wreckage, prompting an urgent rescue operation. LASTMA operatives arrived promptly on the scene, deployed specialised extrication equipment, and successfully freed the driver, preventing what could have been a fatal outcome.
The injured driver was swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment, thanks to the immediate response of fellow commercial motorists. LASTMA’s intervention also helped prevent further casualties and restored traffic flow along the busy expressway.
Police officers from the Area ‘H’ Ogudu Division provided security during the rescue, ensuring crowd control and securing the scene.
Hon. Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, commended LASTMA for their professionalism and rapid response. He wished the driver a full recovery and urged all motorists to drive responsibly, respect speed limits, and remain vigilant in areas with heavy pedestrian movement.
“Adhering to traffic regulations and cultivating safe driving habits are crucial to reducing road accidents and protecting lives,” Giwa stated.
LASTMA reiterated its commitment to continuous traffic monitoring, swift emergency response, and proactive traffic management, calling on all road users to comply fully with traffic laws in the interest of public safety.
