NNMJ Congratulates Customs CG, Adeniyi, on Birthday, Hails Reforms in NCS

The Network of Nigerian Maritime Journalists (NNMJ) has congratulated the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on the occasion of his birthday, describing his leadership as transformative and impactful.

In a statement issued on Monday, January 19, 2026, and jointly signed by the Chairman of NNMJ, Elder Dele Aderibigbe, and the Secretary, Mr. Moses Ebosele, the association said the milestone birthday provides an opportunity to celebrate Adeniyi’s contributions to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the nation at large.

According to the NNMJ, the Comptroller-General deserves commendation for providing clear direction at a critical period for the Service, noting that his leadership has helped reposition the NCS from a challenging phase to an enviable status within the global customs community.

The group said Adeniyi’s tenure has significantly enhanced Nigeria’s standing at the World Customs Organisation (WCO), where the country now enjoys greater respect and visibility, thereby boosting the nation’s international image.

Describing the Customs boss as a workaholic and reform-minded administrator, the NNMJ highlighted a series of far-reaching reforms introduced under his leadership, particularly the B’Odogwu initiative, an indigenous intervention credited with improving efficiency and increasing revenue generation for the Federal Government.

The statement also referenced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commendation of Adeniyi’s performance, noting that his leadership has contributed to improved community relations, consistent surpassing of revenue targets, stronger trade partnerships with countries and multilateral institutions, and enhanced security across Nigeria’s borders.

“These achievements underscore the value of reform-oriented leadership in strengthening national economic resilience and safeguarding our borders,” the statement quoted the President as saying.

The Network concluded by praying for divine strength, wisdom, and good health for Dr. Adeniyi as he continues to steer the affairs of the Nigeria Customs Service.
