Ogun I Customs Command Records Major Seizures, Hands Over Narcotics and Ammunition to NDLEA and NCCSALW

The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded significant achievements in revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations, and inter-agency collaboration, the Acting Area Controller, OO Afeni, announced during a press conference held at Idiroko on Thursday, 29 January 2026. The event also featured the official handover of seized cannabis sativa and ammunition to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), South West Zone.
Revenue Generation
Afeni reported that the command generated a total of ₦454.67 million in 2025, marking a 47% increase compared to ₦275.83 million collected in 2024. This upward trend continued into 2026, with ₦106.28 million remitted to the federation account between 1 and 28 January, representing an 84.3% increase over the same period in 2025. Revenue was generated through baggage assessment, auctions of seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), and other trade-related activities.
Anti-Smuggling Operations
The command made 487 seizures in 2025, intercepting contraband items including:
- 22,725 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each)
- 2,669 kegs of PMS (66,725 liters)
- 13,332 parcels of cannabis sativa
- 2,128 Red Star cartridges
- 1,315 pieces of Riodin explosives
- Various firearms including Dane guns, revolvers, and locally made rifles
- Narcotics such as 28.90kg of crystal meth and 16kg of heroin
The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of seized items in 2025 amounted to ₦4.13 billion, compared to ₦1.79 billion in 2024, reflecting an increase of over ₦2.3 billion.
From 1 January to 29 January 2026, the command recorded early-year seizures including 1,042 bags of rice, 3,738 parcels of cannabis sativa, 780 used tires, 473 kegs of PMS, and six used vehicles. The DPV of these seizures stood at ₦721.45 million. Afeni emphasized that the seizure of arms and ammunition is particularly critical given ongoing security challenges, noting that items such as 2,128 cartridges and 1,315 explosives were handed over to the NCCSALW.
Inter-Agency Collaboration
The command also highlighted strong collaboration with sister security agencies, host communities, and traditional institutions in the Idiroko-Igolo border area. As part of this partnership, 3,623 parcels of cannabis sativa were handed over to NDLEA for proper disposal, while other seized drugs, including soduku plant extraction toothpaste and soduku Vitamin D, were transferred to NAFDAC for further evaluation.
Commitment to Law Enforcement
Afeni condemned recent attacks on customs officers in areas such as Akokoro and Imeko, stressing that such incidents will not deter the command from enforcing anti-smuggling laws. He called on community leaders to educate youths on the dangers of smuggling and emphasized that smuggling remains a serious crime under the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.

The Acting Area Controller expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, for his support, and commended the officers of Ogun I Command for their professionalism and dedication. He urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to help suppress smuggling and other economic crimes.
Afeni concluded by reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting the economy, ensuring security, and contributing to national prosperity in 2026.
