Oluremi Tinubu Hands Over Three Mobile Clinics to Taraba, NYSC to Boost Grassroots Healthcare

The First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated three fully equipped mobile clinic units to the Taraba State Government and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to enhance healthcare delivery in underserved communities.

The mobile clinics were officially handed over during a ceremony held in Abuja, under RHI’s Love on Wheels project, aimed at expanding access to quality healthcare beyond conventional hospital settings.

Speaking at the event, Senator Tinubu described the initiative as “care in action,” noting that the mobile clinics are designed to strengthen healthcare delivery, shorten emergency response times, and provide flexible medical services to hard-to-reach and underserved populations through professional healthcare providers.

Two of the mobile clinics were earlier pledged to the NYSC on January 23, 2025, during the commissioning of the Nigerian Digital Museum in Abuja. The First Lady explained that the delay in delivery was due to the fact that the clinics were built from scratch to meet required certification and safety standards.

The third mobile clinic was donated to the Taraba State Government, following a pledge made during her official visit to the state on April 11, 2025, at a health programme for frontline health workers.

Emphasising the non-partisan nature of the gesture, Senator Tinubu noted that the donation to Taraba State was made despite the state being governed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the time.

“We’re all Nigerians. Party politics aside, we have to provide the dividend of democracy to our people. It’s people first before party, and that’s what we’ve been doing,” she said.

She added that official visits to states are not for political campaigns but to support Nigerians in need, regardless of political affiliation.

The First Lady prayed that the mobile clinics would be responsibly utilised to save lives and complement state healthcare efforts.

“To the glory of God, I hereby hand over one RHI Love on Wheels mobile clinic to the Taraba State Government and two to the National Youth Service Corps,” she declared.

Receiving the donation, Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, expressed deep appreciation to the First Lady, describing the mobile clinic as a major boost to healthcare coverage in the state.

He commended Senator Tinubu for extending her humanitarian gestures beyond party lines, noting that the donation was his first major gift since assuming office.

“Our mother spoke to me when I was still in PDP. It shows that leadership goes beyond party lines, and this is what we expect from leaders,” the governor said.

He described the mobile clinic as “hope on wheels,” adding that it would reach communities where access to quality healthcare has remained a challenge.

Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, also praised the First Lady for her consistent support to the health sector, describing the mobile clinics as a demonstration of genuine care for Nigerians.

Similarly, the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Oluseye Nafiu, described the two mobile clinics allocated to the scheme as a strategic intervention to extend healthcare services to underserved populations.

“Health is not a privilege; it is a right. The Renewed Hope Initiative is committed to ensuring every Nigerian has access to quality health services without financial hardship,” he said.

According to him, NYSC medical personnel have provided primary healthcare services to over four million Nigerians, with more than 6,300 medical professionals deployed annually to rural and remote areas.

The event concluded with the official handover of the three mobile clinics by Senator Oluremi Tinubu to the Taraba State Government and the National Youth Service Corps.
