Seme Customs Rakes in N2 Billion in Three Weeks, Seizes 200 Bags of Smuggled Rice in Badagry
Lagos, January 26, 2026 – The Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has maintained a strong start to 2026, generating approximately N2 billion in revenue within the first three weeks of the year.
The command, one of Nigeria’s busiest border posts, had recorded N15.6 billion in revenue in 2025, including N3.6 billion collected in December alone. Officials say the momentum has continued into the new year, reflecting the command’s focus on both revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations.
Comptroller Wale Adenuga, Controller of Seme Command, disclosed that his officers remain committed to surpassing last year’s figures while maintaining strict enforcement against smuggling activities. “While revenue remains a priority, our anti-smuggling efforts have not slowed. We are taking the fight to smugglers both in the creeks and at points of sale,” he said.
In line with this approach, the command conducted a raid at a Badagry market on January 21, 2026, where officers seized over 200 bags of smuggled rice. The operation targeted a notorious point where smuggled rice was being assembled and sold. Comptroller Adenuga emphasized that the raid will be a continuous effort until the area is cleared of illicit activities.
The Seme Command also represented the Nigeria Customs Service at the Badagry palace following the recent passing of the Oba of Badagry, where condolences were conveyed on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi.
Comptroller Adenuga expressed confidence that with continued support from the Customs leadership, the Seme Command will sustain both its revenue generation and anti-smuggling enforcement efforts in 2026.
