CGC Adeniyi Unveils Green Channel at Lekki Deep Sea Port to Fast-Track Cargo Clearance

Lagos, February 11, 2026 – The Comptroller-General of Customs, , has unveiled a Green Channel initiative at the , aimed at simplifying cargo clearance, reducing delays, and improving efficiency at one of Nigeria’s busiest maritime gateways.

The launch, held on Wednesday, marks a significant milestone in the reform drive of the (NCS) to strengthen trade facilitation through innovation, technology, and collaboration with port stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Adeniyi explained that the Green Channel was introduced by the Lekki Deep Sea Port and approved by NCS Management to address long-standing operational bottlenecks, particularly container stacking and examination challenges that often slow down cargo processing at major ports.

According to him, the initiative enables containers to be moved directly from vessels to a dedicated holding area where importers can access them with minimal delays.

“This intervention ensures that containers are transferred from the vessel to a designated location, where they are tracked throughout the process. It improves transparency and reduces unnecessary delays,” Adeniyi said.

He noted that the Green Channel creates a dedicated corridor for compliant traders, reducing bureaucratic hurdles and accelerating cargo movement, thereby improving turnaround time for importers and other port users.

The Customs boss described the initiative as a product of strengthened trust between the Service and its stakeholders, stressing that sustained compliance and cooperation are critical to its success.

“What we have done today is a reflection of the confidence we have in our stakeholders and the trust we have built over time. We expect that this will be driven in the spirit of compliance and trade facilitation,” he added.

Beyond easing congestion and operational inefficiencies, Adeniyi stated that the Green Channel aligns with Nigeria’s broader economic goals of enhancing competitiveness, reducing the cost of doing business, and boosting revenue generation.

Industry observers say the initiative could significantly improve cargo throughput at the Lekki Deep Sea Port, positioning it as a model for streamlined port operations across the country.
