Dangote Cement Plc has restated its commitment to making Africa fully self-sufficient in cement production, as part of efforts to strengthen the continent’s industrial base, reduce import dependence, and support large-scale infrastructure development.

The company made this known during a strategic briefing on its continental expansion drive, where the Group Managing Director, Mr. Arvind Pathak, disclosed that Dangote Cement is accelerating investments across key African markets to bridge supply gaps and meet rising construction demand.

Pathak said the company’s long-term vision is to ensure Africa produces enough cement to serve its domestic needs through sustained expansion, operational efficiency, and a robust distribution network.

“Our vision is clear — to ensure Africa produces enough cement to meet its own needs. Through continuous expansion, operational excellence, and a strong distribution network, we are positioning Dangote Cement to power growth across the continent. We are not just building a business; we are building Africa’s future,” he said.

According to him, Dangote Cement remains Africa’s leading cement producer and is working towards achieving a production capacity of 90 million metric tonnes per annum by 2030 across the continent.

Pathak also highlighted Nigeria’s transformation from a cement-importing nation to a net exporter, attributing the achievement to the company’s sustained investments.

“Through our collective determination, we have eliminated Nigeria’s dependence on imported cement and transformed the country into a net exporter of cement to several neighbouring countries,” he added.

Dangote Cement currently operates in multiple African countries, with integrated plants, grinding facilities, and strategically located distribution hubs serving diverse regional markets. Ongoing projects include plant upgrades, capacity expansions, and the deployment of energy-efficient technologies aimed at lowering production costs and reducing carbon emissions.

Reinforcing the company’s long-term strategy, the Founder and President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, described cement self-sufficiency as both an economic necessity and a continental responsibility.

“Africa has no reason to depend on cement imports. We have the raw materials, the talent, and the determination. Our goal at Dangote Cement is to unlock Africa’s potential by ensuring that every nation can access affordable, high-quality cement produced within Africa,” Dangote said.

He added that the company’s investments are driven by a commitment to industrialisation, job creation, and sustainable development across the continent.

With major infrastructure projects — including highways, bridges, and housing developments — expanding across African cities, demand for cement continues to rise. Dangote Cement’s renewed push for continental self-sufficiency is expected to help stabilise supply, moderate prices, and enhance construction reliability.
