Dangote Visits Burundi, Holds Investment Talks with President Ndayishimiye

Africa’s richest businessman and President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has paid a strategic visit to Burundi to explore fresh investment opportunities aimed at expanding the conglomerate’s footprint across the African continent.

Dangote held high-level discussions with Burundi’s President, Evariste Ndayishimiye, at the presidential palace, where both parties examined areas of potential collaboration to support the country’s economic development agenda.

The Nigerian industrialist was accompanied by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Describing the visit as both diplomatic and economic, Dangote disclosed that two technical teams—one from the Burundian government and the other from the Dangote Group—have been set up to identify priority sectors and develop bankable investment projects.

“Our focus really is investing heavily in the African continent, not anywhere else, and so Burundi is part and parcel of that African region,” Dangote said after the meeting.

He highlighted key sectors of interest to include solid minerals, power generation, agriculture, cement manufacturing, and infrastructure development. According to him, the objective is to establish a mutually beneficial partnership that will drive sustainable growth and shared prosperity.

Official sources indicated that the talks also covered strategic cooperation in infrastructure, logistics, industrialization, and energy—critical sectors identified by the Burundian government as central to its long-term economic transformation.

The engagement is seen as a significant step in Burundi’s efforts to attract large-scale private sector investment while deepening ties with leading African industrial players. Analysts say the visit could mark the beginning of a new phase of economic collaboration, positioning Burundi as an emerging destination for major continental investors.
