Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Holds Free Wellness Outreach for Elderly Residents

Residents of Igbogbo Bayeku LCDA  aged 40 years and above have benefited from a free healthcare outreach organised by the council in collaboration with Pure-Heart Wellness Outreach.

The wellness programme, held at the council secretariat hall on Saturday, offered general medical consultations, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, tuberculosis (TB) tests, HIV screening, and distribution of free medications. The initiative drew a large turnout, particularly among senior citizens who took advantage of the opportunity to assess their health status at no cost.

Medical personnel from the council’s Primary Health Care (PHC) department and Pure-Heart Wellness Outreach attended to participants in an orderly and coordinated manner. Beyond diagnostic tests, residents also received professional counselling on diet, exercise, medication adherence, and preventive health practices.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of the LCDA, , reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising residents’ welfare under his GLORY Agenda, with special attention to elderly citizens who are more vulnerable to age-related ailments.

He described the outreach as a proactive intervention aimed at encouraging early detection of health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases, thereby reducing preventable complications and improving overall quality of life at the grassroots level.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture. Mrs. Abosede Adeyemi, 67, said the free services removed the financial barrier that often discourages elderly people from seeking routine medical care.

“Today, my blood pressure was checked, and I received medication without paying. We are grateful to the Chairman and the partners,” she said.

Mr. Rasheed Balogun, 72, described the outreach as a relief, noting that frequent hospital visits can be financially challenging for many retirees. Mrs. Felicia Ogundipe, 63, also commended the organisers for bringing healthcare closer to the people, saying the programme made her feel cared for and properly advised.

The Chief Executive Officer of Pure-Heart Wellness Outreach, Oluwatoyin Ojuri, emphasised the importance of community-based health interventions, noting that routine screening and early diagnosis are critical in reducing mortality rates and improving life expectancy.

Similarly, the Medical Officer of Health for the LCDA, Dr. Gideon Akande, underscored the significance of TB and HIV testing as key components of preventive healthcare, adding that early detection enhances treatment outcomes and curbs community transmission.

At the close of the programme, many elderly residents departed the venue expressing satisfaction and renewed confidence in their health status. The outreach was widely regarded as a significant step towards strengthening grassroots healthcare delivery and ensuring access to essential medical services for vulnerable populations within the council area.
