Lagos Police Arrest Two Over Alleged Murder of Sheriff Salami, Prince Akinloye, Declare Businessman Wanted
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two principal suspects in connection with the alleged murders of Sheriff Salami Ishola and Prince Ademola Akinloye in Eti-Osa Local Government Area, declaring a businessman and three others wanted.
Addressing journalists on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, said the suspects were apprehended following a discreet investigation into the killings which occurred in 2023 and 2024.
According to him, the two suspects currently in police custody — Safiu Fatai, also known as Fabo (40), and Yusuf Ismaila, popularly called Bariga — allegedly participated in both killings and have made confessional statements.
First Incident: Sheriff Salami Ishola
Police investigations revealed that on April 18, 2023, at about 3:00 p.m., the suspects, allegedly armed with locally fabricated weapons, waylaid Sheriff Salami Ishola, 37, in the Moba area of Ajah, Eti-Osa. He was reportedly attacked and killed at the scene before the assailants fled.
The Commissioner stated that the suspects confessed they carried out the act on the instruction of one Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi, who allegedly hired them.
Second Incident: Prince Ademola Akinloye
The suspects also reportedly admitted involvement in the killing of Prince Ademola Akinloye, 38, which occurred on August 26, 2024, along Chevron Road in Ajiran, Eti-Osa LGA.
Prince Akinloye was the son of Oba Adetunji Akinloye, the Ojomu of Ajiran Land. Police said the modus operandi in the second incident was similar to the first.
Alleged Sponsor Declared Wanted
CP Jimoh disclosed that investigations linked a businessman, Alhaji Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi, said to be the CEO/MD of HAMTAJAK & HALROMALK in Ajiran, Eti-Osa, to the crimes. He has been declared wanted alongside three other suspects identified as Soji Mascot, Kenny, and Bode.
The police alleged that the two arrested suspects claimed they were paid ₦2 million — ₦500,000 each — after the first killing and were promised additional benefits.
Although the incidents predated CP Jimoh’s assumption of office, he explained that the cases were reopened following fresh intelligence, leading to the arrest of Safiu Fatai on January 24, 2026, and Yusuf Ismaila on February 6, 2026.
The Commissioner assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and bring them to justice.
He urged members of the public in Lagos and beyond to report any information about the whereabouts of the wanted individuals to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency numbers.
