Lagos SCID Honours 15 Retired Police Officers for Decades of Dedicated Service

The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, under the Lagos State Police Command, on February 13, 2026, hosted a historic maiden ceremony to celebrate 15 retired police officers in recognition of their professionalism, integrity and more than three decades of meritorious service to the nation.

The appreciation event brought together eminent personalities, senior police officers, captains of industry, families and well-wishers to honour the distinguished retirees for their selfless contributions to national security and law enforcement in Lagos State.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID, DCP Dayo Akinbisehin, commended the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, for approving the participation of the Police Band, which added colour and prestige to the historic gathering. He noted that the contributions, ideas and sacrifices of the retired officers during their years of service had left an enduring legacy within the command.

Akinbisehin acknowledged the retirees’ discipline, integrity, courage and unwavering dedication to national security, describing them as role models for younger officers. He emphasised that their commitment to duty significantly strengthened policing structures and public trust in Lagos State.

Family members, colleagues, associates and well-wishers turned out in large numbers to celebrate the honourees, expressing pride in their years of meritorious service. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as tributes poured in for the retirees.

Addressing journalists, the retired officers expressed gratitude to God for what they described as a “safe landing” after about 35 years of meritorious service to the nation.

One of the retirees, CSP Charles Akinrosoye (Rtd), former Officer-in-Charge of Legal at the Lagos State Police Command, called for continuous professional training and improved government funding for the police, stressing the need to equip officers for modern-day, technology-driven policing.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area, Hon. Bayo Adefuye, described the retirees as “pillars of discipline and guardians of public trust.” He urged them to channel their wealth of experience into community policing initiatives, noting that effective collaboration between citizens and security agencies remains critical to tackling contemporary security challenges.

Gifts were presented to the retirees as a mark of appreciation for their service to humanity and the nation, while the ceremony climaxed with music and dance in honour of the celebrants.
