LSSTF Launches Sustained Aerial Surveillance Operations to Strengthen Security Across Lagos

The (LSSTF), in collaboration with the Airwing Command, has commenced sustained aerial surveillance patrols across Lagos, marking a major step in the state’s renewed drive toward intelligence-led policing and enhanced public safety.

The maiden aerial patrol, conducted on Monday, February 23, featured the Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan; Commissioner of Police, Airwing Command, CP Martin Nwogoh; and Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh. The operation involved a rapid, low-altitude maneuver across Lagos Island and the mainland aboard a Nigeria Police helicopter, demonstrating the operational reach and responsiveness of the initiative.

Speaking on the development, Dr. Ogunsan described the initiative as a strategic investment in modern security infrastructure designed to protect residents and businesses across the state.

According to him, the patrols will provide real-time aerial surveillance, monitor flashpoints, deter criminal activities, and enhance coordinated responses among security agencies. He stressed that the operation is not a one-off exercise but a sustained component of Lagos’ evolving security architecture.

“This maiden flight marks the beginning of a sustained aerial patrol initiative designed to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance rapid response capability, and reinforce the State’s overall security framework. Subsequent flights will be conducted continuously as part of an integrated surveillance strategy,” he said.

Dr. Ogunsan added that the initiative sends a strong message of reassurance to residents and a clear warning to criminal elements.

“For the first time today, we saw the Lagos we are so passionate about from another dimension. We have sent a signal of safety and reassurance to Lagosians that the city will be secured on land, water, and in the air. To those who want to cause chaos or make our state ungovernable, there is no room for criminality,” he stated.

He commended the Governor of Lagos State, , for championing bold security initiatives, as well as the LSSTF Board for its unwavering support.

Providing further insight after the patrol, CP Martin Nwogoh explained that the exercise showcased the transformative role of aerial support in modern policing.

“What we conducted today was a surveillance patrol. We flew at low altitude across Lagos Island and the mainland, covering almost all parts of Lagos within minutes to demonstrate the capability of aerial patrol. Such operations can support surveillance, rescue missions, and even troop insertion when necessary,” he said.

Similarly, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh noted that the aerial patrol would significantly enhance coordination between ground and water-based policing units.

“This air surveillance will strengthen coordination of ground and marine operations. We patrolled Makoko, Yaba, into the Island and back to the mainland. We want to send a clear warning to criminals to desist from unlawful activities in Lagos,” he stated.

With the commencement of regular aerial patrols, LSSTF reaffirmed its commitment to deploying innovative security interventions aimed at safeguarding lives and property. The agency also assured residents that the flights are strictly for surveillance and public safety purposes, urging continued cooperation with law enforcement authorities.
