NAOSNP Congratulates Acting IGP Tunji Disu, Describes Appointment as Well Deserved

The National Association of Online Security News Publishers  (NAOSNP) has congratulated Olatunji Rilwan Disu on his appointment as Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), describing his elevation as well deserved and timely.

Disu was appointed Acting IGP by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu  following the resignation of Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who stepped down to attend to family matters.

In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Eric Elezuo, the association praised Disu’s track record of professionalism, integrity, and dedication to service, noting that his appointment comes at a critical period in the nation’s security landscape.

NAOSNP described the new Acting IGP as a seasoned officer whose career trajectory reflects competence and steadfastness, adding that his emergence would boost morale within the Nigeria Police Force and strengthen ongoing efforts to combat crime nationwide.

“The National Association of Online Security News Publishers is pleased to identify with the appointment of a super cop known for integrity and remarkable track record,” the statement read. “His appointment is a round peg in a round hole, considering his policing intelligence, patriotism, and years of dedicated service.”

The association further expressed confidence in Disu’s ability to bring his extensive experience to bear in leading the Force, pledging its support as a security-focused media body committed to promoting a safer Nigeria.

NAOSNP National President, Mayor Oki Olatunji Samson, also commended President Tinubu for what he described as the right choice, stating that Disu has consistently demonstrated competence in various commands and assignments throughout his career.

“Disu is synonymous with policing excellence in Nigeria and has proven his mettle in every position he has held,” he said, wishing the Acting IGP a successful tenure.

Before his appointment, Disu served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos. He was promoted to the rank of AIG in 2025.

He previously served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and later in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command. He also headed the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force and was a former Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos.

Born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos Island, Disu enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992. Over the years, he served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ago Iwoye, Ikare, Owo, Elimbu, and Elelenwo, among other postings.

Meanwhile, NAOSNP also acknowledged the contributions of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, appreciating his engagement with the media and support for the association, including participation in its National Security Conference.

Acting IGP Disu has since assumed office.
