NIS Lagos Comptroller Seeks Stronger LSSTF Support for Migration Management

The Lagos State Command Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), CIS Christopher Olu Onajinrin, has paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, to appreciate the Fund’s sustained support and seek enhanced collaboration to strengthen migration and border security operations in Lagos.

During the visit, Comptroller Onajinrin conveyed gratitude on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Immigration, , describing LSSTF’s interventions as critical to the Command’s operations.

“I am here to express our profound gratitude to the LSSTF. Your worthy contributions have been acknowledged at the highest level,” Onajinrin stated. He noted that as Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, remains a major destination for migrants, adding that regional instability in the Sahel has increased irregular and undocumented migration into the state.

Highlighting recent enforcement actions, the Comptroller disclosed the repatriation of 21 Chadian nationals discovered in a crowded apartment in the Fagba area, noting that similar cases had been uncovered in Alimosho, Epe and other parts of the state.

Onajinrin appealed for additional operational vehicles and logistics support, explaining that the Command is overstretched. According to him, officers sometimes have to source vehicles externally to transport migrants for repatriation to locations as far as Yobe State and the Illela border. He added that the Command maintains offices across all 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas in Lagos.

Responding, LSSTF Executive Secretary Dr. Ogunsan commended the Minister of Interior, , and the Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap, for what he described as exemplary leadership. He also praised Comptroller Onajinrin for his professionalism and commitment to service.

Ogunsan reaffirmed the Fund’s readiness to deepen its partnership with the NIS, assuring that support would be extended. “For the operational vehicles, it will not be today, but by next week it will be presented,” he pledged.

He further promised to involve NIS officers in upcoming inter-agency training programmes and provide support in personnel kits, noting the importance of fostering collaboration among security agencies operating within the state.

The meeting underscored LSSTF’s commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation to enhance migration management, security coordination and public safety across Lagos State.
