World Cancer Day 2026: First Lady Calls for United Action to Support Cancer Patients



Lagos, Nigeria – February 4, 2026 – Marking World Cancer Day 2026, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has called on Nigerians to recognize the unique journeys of individuals affected by cancer while fostering a shared commitment to prevention, early detection, and quality care.

Speaking on the theme “UnitedByUnique,” the First Lady emphasized the importance of placing people at the center of care and listening to their stories. She highlighted that through collective action—ranging from awareness and preventive measures to sustained support for patients—Nigeria can strengthen its fight against cancer and move closer to a cancer-free future.

“Every cancer journey is different, yet our hope is shared. By uniting our voices and actions, we can build a stronger, more compassionate response to cancer,” she stated.

World Cancer Day is observed annually to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage proactive steps in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
