Zone 2 Police Arrest Suspect Over Large-Scale Fake Engine Oil Racket, Recover 280 Gallons Across Five States
Operatives of the Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, have arrested a 26-year-old suspect in connection with a large-scale engine oil adulteration syndicate operating across multiple states in Nigeria.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, , disclosed that the breakthrough followed a petition alleging the unlawful adulteration of a branded engine oil product.
According to the Command, detectives from the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit launched an intelligence-driven investigation which led to the arrest of Ngwu Samuel Ebezimakor, identified as the alleged mastermind behind the production, importation, and distribution of adulterated engine oil products.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly imported the fake products from China and distributed them to various states across the federation. A total of 280 gallons of adulterated engine oil were recovered from different locations in Imo, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, and Ogun States.
Further verification conducted in collaboration with the (SON) confirmed that the seized products failed to meet the requirements of the relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards.
The suspect has since been arraigned in court, while investigations continue to track other members of the syndicate and distribution network.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to combating economic sabotage, AIG Fayoade warned that individuals involved in the production and circulation of counterfeit products would face the full weight of the law. He emphasized that the police remain resolute in protecting legitimate businesses and safeguarding consumers from harmful and substandard goods.
Residents were encouraged to report suspicious activities through the Zone 2 Command’s official communication channels.
