AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh Launches 2026 Police Week with Sanitation Exercise, Decorates Six officers as ACPs at Zone 2 Zonal Headquarters
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Moshood Olorundare Jimoh, on Monday flagged off the 2026 Police Week with a sanitation exercise across public facilities in Lagos, while decorating seven newly promoted officers and unveiling a reform-driven policing agenda at the Zone 2 Zonal Headquarters.
In a demonstration of commitment to community policing, AIG Jimoh led officers and personnel in cleaning the command environment and surrounding public spaces, including the Onikan Stadium, alongside traffic control duties.
The exercise marked Day 1 of the 2026 Police Week themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” and was replicated across police formations nationwide.
According to the AIG, the initiative is aimed at strengthening public trust and reinforcing collaboration between the police and the communities they serve.
“This is to improve trust in the minds of the people. There is little we can achieve alone without the collaboration and support of the community,” he said.
Seven Officers Decorated, AIG Commends Merit and Dedication
At the Zone 2 Zonal Headquarters, AIG Jimoh decorated seven officers recently promoted from Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), describing their elevation as a reward for hard work, discipline, and professionalism.
He expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Police Service Commission for approving the promotions.
The AIG charged the officers to justify the confidence reposed in them and to uphold the highest standards of policing.
AIG Unveils Policing Strategy for Lagos, Ogun
Formally assuming duty as the 34th AIG in charge of Zone 2 Zonal Headquarters, Jimoh described his appointment as a call to greater service and responsibility.
He highlighted the strategic importance of Lagos and Ogun States, noting their critical role in Nigeria’s security and economic stability.
The AIG outlined key priorities of his leadership to include:
Intelligence-driven and proactive policing
Strengthened community partnership across all sectors
Zero tolerance for corruption and misconduct
Strict adherence to human rights standards
Enhanced collaboration with stakeholders
He stressed that policing under his watch would be firm, lawful, and people-oriented.
“We will ensure professionalism, fairness, and respect for human rights. Any officer found wanting will face decisive disciplinary action,” he stated.
Strong Warning to Criminal Elements
AIG Jimoh issued a stern warning to criminal elements in Lagos and Ogun States, urging them to desist or face the full weight of the law.
“We will relentlessly pursue and dismantle criminal networks. Criminals should leave these states as we are fully prepared to confront them,” he warned.
He also reassured residents of improved safety through strengthened intelligence gathering, proactive crime prevention, and rapid response operations.
Police Week Activities Continue
Activities for the 2026 Police Week include a walkathon, public sensitization on electoral violence and safe driving, and presentation of cheques to families of fallen officers, with a grand finale scheduled for April 7 in Abuja.
The AIG called on residents, stakeholders, and the media to support the initiative and partner with the police in building safer communities.
“Police is your friend and now your partner. Together, we can build a more secure society,” he added.
