Lagos Police Launch National Police Day 2026 Activities with Community-Focused Programmes

The Lagos State Police Command has announced the commencement of activities to mark the 2026 National Police Day, unveiling a lineup of community-driven programmes aimed at strengthening public trust, enhancing cooperation, and promoting security across the state.

The Command disclosed that this year’s celebration is themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” underscoring the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to deepen community policing and foster stronger relationships with residents.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the week-long activities will honour the sacrifices of officers, particularly fallen heroes, while also showcasing the operational capacity and professionalism of the Force.

Activities began on Monday, March 30, with a sanitation and environmental cleaning exercise across all Area Commands, coordinated by respective commanders. This will be followed by a medical outreach programme scheduled to hold at Computer Village, Ikeja.

On Tuesday, March 31, the Command will organise a walkathon designed to boost public engagement and awareness. The exercise will take off from the State Command Headquarters in Ikeja GRA and terminate at Maryland Junction.

The programme continues on Wednesday, April 1, with public sensitisation campaigns focusing on the dangers of electoral violence, cultism, and other security challenges, alongside awareness initiatives promoting safe driving practices among motorists.

On Thursday, April 2, the Command will host stakeholder engagement sessions and present cheques to families of deceased officers as part of efforts to support and recognise their sacrifices.

The celebrations will culminate on Tuesday, April 7, in Abuja with a grand finale featuring a ceremonial parade and tactical display.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, called on residents, community leaders, and partner organisations to actively participate in the activities, noting that collective involvement is essential to building trust, strengthening cooperation, and ensuring sustainable peace in Lagos State.
