AIG Simeon Udofia Akpanudom Assumes Office at FCID Alagbon, Vows Professionalism, Human Rights Compliance
The newly appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, Simeon Udofia Akpanudom, has pledged to prioritize professionalism, human rights compliance, and improved investigative capacity as he formally assumed office on Monday.
Speaking during his maiden press briefing in Lagos on March 30, 2026, AIG Akpanudom described his appointment as a call to service that demands the highest standards of accountability, transparency, and responsibility in criminal investigations.
He expressed deep appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for entrusting him with the leadership of the FCID Annex, noting that the department remains the apex investigative arm of the Nigeria Police Force, handling sensitive cases of national and international importance.
Akpanudom emphasized that his administration would align with the IGP’s people-oriented policing vision, which prioritizes public trust and respect for human rights. He referenced the upcoming National Police Day 2026, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” as a reflection of this commitment, adding that the FCID Annex in Lagos is actively participating in the week-long activities leading up to the grand finale in Abuja on April 7.
The AIG revealed plans to implement strategic reforms within his first 30 to 60 days in office. According to him, these reforms will focus on leveraging technology, strengthening collaboration with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and engaging the private sector to enhance investigative efficiency.
He further disclosed that personnel training would be prioritized to align operations with modern international best practices, with the goal of reducing human rights violations, minimizing litigations, and restoring public confidence in police investigations.
“Public trust in the police to handle criminal investigations dispassionately will be enhanced through professionalism and due diligence,” he said.
On discipline, Akpanudom warned that misconduct would not be tolerated, stressing that erring officers would be sanctioned in accordance with existing laws, including the Police Act and internal regulations. He, however, assured that exemplary conduct and professionalism would be duly recognized and rewarded.
The AIG also assured members of the public of his accessibility and willingness to engage directly with citizens to address their concerns, urging patience as efforts are made to improve service delivery.
He concluded by calling for sustained collaboration with the media and other stakeholders in disseminating accurate information, noting that strong partnerships are essential to building trust and enhancing national security.
The appointment of AIG Akpanudom signals a renewed focus on institutional reforms, police welfare, and capacity building within the FCID, as the Nigeria Police Force continues efforts to strengthen its investigative framework.
