Akwa Ibom Women Endorse Tinubu, Akpabio, Umo Eno for 2027 During International Women’s Day Rally

Thousands of women in Akwa Ibom State have endorsed the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno ahead of the 2027 general elections during the 2026 celebration of International Women’s Day held in Uyo.

Over 5,000 women gathered for the event, which was attended by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as part of activities marking the global celebration.

Speaking at the rally, Mrs. Tinubu described the 2026 theme, “Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls,” as a strong call for collective action to protect and advance the rights of women and girls across the country.

According to her, ensuring access to education, economic empowerment, healthcare, social protection and equity for women is critical to national development.

“This year’s theme, ‘Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls,’ is a call to action. Protecting the rights of women and girls by ensuring access to education, economic empowerment, health, social protection and equity is an investment in our collective future,” she said.

She urged women to become agents of positive change in their homes, businesses and communities, noting that purposeful leadership by women has far-reaching impact on the nation.

The First Lady also highlighted ongoing reforms by the current administration, stressing that they are designed to create long-term transformation and prosperity for Nigerians.

“The reforms already started by this administration are designed to create a lasting legacy of transformation and prosperity for all Nigerians. We must protect the progress we have made and keep building on it,” she added.

In his remarks, Senate President Akpabio commended the vital role women play in stabilising families and society, describing them as critical partners in national development.

Governor Eno also emphasised the importance of women in societal progress, stating that the success of any society is largely dependent on their contributions.

The highlight of the event was the formal endorsement of President Tinubu and Governor Eno for a second term in office, while Akpabio was also endorsed for another term in the Senate.

The endorsement declaration was read by the Deputy Governor of the state, Akon Eyakenyi, alongside other prominent women leaders in the state.

Earlier before the rally, the First Lady commissioned an ultra-modern Senior Citizens Centre in Uyo named in her honour.

Speaking during the commissioning, Mrs. Tinubu stressed the importance of caring for the elderly, noting that a society that honours its senior citizens demonstrates responsibility and gratitude.

“A society that honours its elderly is one that understands responsibility, gratitude and continuity,” she said, while urging families and communities to continue supporting their ageing relatives.

She also encouraged other states to replicate the initiative.

The centre, conceptualised by the late wife of Governor Eno, Pastor Patience Eno, is designed to provide healthcare services, recreational facilities and social support for elderly citizens in a safe and dignified environment.
