Lagos West Youths Demand Governorship Zoning, Back Samuel Ajose Ahead of 2027 Lagos Polls
Youths from Badagry Division in Lagos State have intensified calls for the zoning of the governorship seat to the area ahead of the 2027 elections, declaring unwavering support for the “Badagry Lokan” agenda while endorsing businessman and political figure, Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, as a capable contender.
The agitation for the emergence of a Lagos State governor from Badagry gained fresh momentum as youths across the division publicly aligned with traditional rulers and political leaders demanding equity in the state’s leadership structure.
Speaking during a media briefing held in Amuwo Odofin, the Convener of APC Youths in Lagos West, Prince Seyon Adeyemi Akran, described the movement as a historic turning point driven by a united and politically conscious younger generation.
Akran noted that since the creation of Lagos State in 1967, Badagry Division has never produced a governor, stressing that the demand for zoning is rooted in fairness, justice, and inclusion rather than political confrontation.
According to him, the youths are fully aligned with the position of traditional rulers across Badagry, insisting that the time has come for the division to take its rightful place in the governance of the state.
“We are united, aware, and determined. This is not agitation; this is a call for justice. Badagry has contributed immensely to the growth and political stability of Lagos State and deserves the opportunity to lead,” he said.
The youths also reaffirmed their loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to mobilise massive electoral support in the 2027 general elections.
Akran expressed confidence that the youth bloc would deliver up to 95 percent of votes for the party, emphasising their commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Highlighting the capabilities within the division, the group rejected claims that Badagry lacks qualified individuals to govern the state, pointing to a pool of experienced and accomplished professionals across various sectors.
Central to their endorsement is Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, whom they described as a tested and committed party loyalist with a track record of grassroots mobilisation and political support across Lagos State.
The youths outlined Ajose’s contributions, including investment in party structures, logistical support for elections across all 57 local government areas, and mobilisation of supporters within Lagos and the South-West region.
They maintained that his track record demonstrates readiness, competence, and the capacity required to govern a complex state like Lagos.
On his part, youth leader Adewale Talabi disclosed that more than 80 percent of eligible youths in Badagry have obtained their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), positioning the division as a decisive voting bloc in the 2027 elections.
He attributed the longstanding agitation partly to years of neglect in Lagos West Senatorial District, which he said has limited socio-economic development in the area.
Also speaking, Aladeotan David highlighted Badagry’s strategic importance, describing it as a gateway to West Africa with significant tourism and economic potential.
He expressed optimism that with the right leadership, the division could unlock its vast cultural heritage and drive economic growth, noting that Ajose has consistently demonstrated capacity in community development and political support.
The youths reiterated that their demand is not divisive but a call for inclusion, insisting that Badagry has remained loyal to the ruling party and deserves recognition through the governorship seat.
They concluded by reaffirming their stance: “Badagry has waited, Badagry has contributed, and Badagry is ready.”
