Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s UK Visit to Witness £746m Port Financing Deal, Says All Progressives Congress Lagos
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has highlighted the strategic importance of the official visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the United Kingdom, saying the trip will strengthen economic diplomacy and facilitate a £746 million financing agreement to rehabilitate major Nigerian ports.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC said the visit would witness the signing of a landmark £746 million financing agreement involving UK Export Finance, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the Federal Ministry of Finance.
According to the party, the agreement is aimed at supporting the refurbishment of two of Nigeria’s key maritime assets — the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and the Tin Can Island Port Complex.
Oladejo noted that the project represents a major step toward modernising Nigeria’s port infrastructure, improving trade efficiency, and strengthening the country’s position as a maritime hub in West Africa.
He said the visit also underscores the administration’s commitment to expanding international partnerships in line with the government’s economic reform agenda.
“The visit provides an important platform for high-level engagements with government officials, investors and development partners on issues critical to Nigeria’s growth, including infrastructure development, energy transition, technology transfer, education, security collaboration, and opportunities for Nigerian businesses in global markets,” the statement said.
The Lagos APC further noted that the United Kingdom remains one of Nigeria’s longstanding economic allies and a key partner in its development trajectory.
According to the party, the expected outcomes of the engagement could unlock new avenues for foreign direct investment, strengthen bilateral trade relations, and create employment opportunities for Nigerians.
Oladejo added that President Tinubu’s diplomatic outreach reflects his record of leveraging international partnerships for development, recalling his tenure as Governor of Lagos State.
He urged Nigerians to view the visit within the broader framework of nation-building and economic diplomacy, noting that strategic global engagement is essential for long-term national prosperity.
The Lagos APC also expressed confidence that the outcomes of the visit would further strengthen Nigeria’s economic prospects and global standing.
