CP Fatai Tijani Withdraws Lagos Taskforce from Traffic Duties

The Lagos State Police Command has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) from all traffic control and enforcement operations, in a move aimed at improving professionalism and operational clarity across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, issued the directive as part of ongoing efforts to streamline traffic management and reinforce accountability among agencies operating on Lagos roads.

According to a press statement signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, the Taskforce is no longer authorized to engage in traffic control or enforce traffic-related offences across the state.

However, the statement clarified that the unit will continue to carry out its other statutory responsibilities, as its broader operational mandate remains intact.

The Command further emphasized that the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit is not the only taskforce operating within Lagos, cautioning residents and motorists to verify the identity of officials before making allegations, particularly in matters involving traffic enforcement.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Lagos State Police Command assured residents that it will continue to protect lives and property while ensuring that all security operations align with established laws and global best practices.

Members of the public were also urged to remain law-abiding and cooperate with duly authorized security agencies.
