Oluremi Tinubu Hosts POWA President Mutiat Disu, Pushes Welfare for Police Families

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday received the wife of the Inspector General of Police, Mutiat Disu, at the State House, Abuja, with a strong call for sustained welfare, empowerment, and healthcare support for families of police officers across the country.

During the meeting held behind closed doors, Senator Tinubu urged Mrs. Disu to prioritise initiatives that would improve the living conditions of police officers’ wives, emphasising the importance of structured welfare and empowerment programmes.

Speaking with journalists after the engagement, Mrs. Disu, who also serves as the National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), expressed readiness to leverage the programmes of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to uplift members of the association nationwide.

She noted that her visit was aimed at drawing from the First Lady’s experience and exploring opportunities for collaboration that would benefit police families. According to her, the interaction provided valuable insights into social intervention and healthcare programmes that could be extended to POWA members.

Mrs. Disu added that her leadership would focus on aligning POWA activities with the RHI framework, particularly in areas affecting women, who make up the majority of the association.

“I have learnt a lot within this short period of interaction, and I am confident that as we begin to work together, our members will benefit more from the RHI programmes, especially in social intervention and healthcare for police families,” she said.

She further assured that her administration would prioritise initiatives targeted at improving the welfare and empowerment of police officers’ wives across the country.

Mrs. Disu assumed leadership of POWA following the appointment of Tunji Disu as the new Inspector General of Police on February 24, 2026, succeeding Kayode Egbetokun.
