Federal Donor Secured by LSSTF Funds Construction of Six New Police Stations Across Lagos

Security infrastructure in Lagos State is set to receive a major boost as the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has secured a federal donor to fully fund the construction of six modern police stations strategically located across the state.

Construction of the new police facilities has already commenced and will be executed in phases to cover additional stations in the future, according to a report by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).

The ongoing projects are located at Morogbo Police Division in Badagry; Elere Police Division in Agege; Hogan Bassey Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Yaba; Oko Awo Police Station in Jankara on Lagos Island; MAN Centre Police Station in Ikeja; and a new Police Division in Ilasamaja.

The distribution of the projects across different parts of the state is designed to strengthen operational efficiency and improve response time across key urban and semi-urban corridors in Lagos.

The intervention was facilitated under the leadership of the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayo Ogunsan, as part of broader efforts to deepen collaboration between government institutions and donor-backed initiatives to strengthen security in Nigeria’s commercial hub.

With an estimated population exceeding 20 million and a significant daily influx of commuters and residents, many police facilities in Lagos—some built decades ago—have faced challenges such as limited capacity, outdated infrastructure, and inadequate working conditions.

The newly planned stations are expected to address these gaps by providing modern, purpose-built structures designed to support contemporary policing operations.

For instance, the Hogan Bassey Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Yaba is expected to strengthen intelligence-led operations against kidnapping and organized crime. Similarly, the Morogbo Police Division in Badagry is expected to enhance border and coastal security along Lagos’ western corridor.

The Elere Police Division in Agege and the Ilasamaja Division will help improve community policing and crime prevention in densely populated areas, while the stations in Ikeja and Lagos Island will strengthen security coverage in major commercial districts hosting financial institutions, markets, and corporate establishments.

Beyond improving law enforcement operations, the new facilities are also expected to create better working environments for police personnel, enhance safety for residents, and boost investor confidence in the state.

The infrastructure upgrade forms part of ongoing reforms to strengthen Lagos’ security architecture through strategic partnerships involving government, the private sector, and development partners.

Since his appointment in October 2025, Ogunsan has intensified efforts to mobilize resources and partnerships to support law enforcement agencies across the state.

Observers say securing a single federal donor to fund the construction of the six stations reflects growing confidence in the fund’s transparency, credibility, and long-term vision for strengthening security infrastructure in Lagos.
