First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Urges Christian Leaders to Preach True Gospel as She Hosts Lausanne Movement
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Christian leaders to focus on preaching the true gospel and living exemplary lives that reflect the teachings of Christ, rather than promoting mere motivational messages.
The First Lady made the call while receiving the Global Executive Chairman of the Lausanne Movement, Michael Oh, and his delegation during a courtesy visit to her office at the State House Abuja.
She stressed the importance of Christians living in constant readiness for the second coming of Christ and serving as moral guides to younger generations.
According to her, Christian leaders and believers have a responsibility to be watchmen by living lives that demonstrate faith, integrity and godly values.
“We as Christian leaders and followers should be watchmen, living our lives in readiness for the coming of Christ, while the church continues to teach younger generations virtues that will shape the future,” she said.
Tinubu also highlighted the commitment of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to building a solid foundation for Nigeria’s future, noting that sustained development becomes easier when strong institutional foundations are established.
She referenced the transformation witnessed in Lagos following reforms initiated during Tinubu’s tenure as governor, expressing optimism that similar long-term progress could be achieved at the national level with support from all stakeholders, including religious leaders.
In his remarks, Oh explained that the Lausanne Movement—founded in 1974 by renowned evangelist Billy Graham—is a global evangelical initiative focused on mobilising Christians worldwide for evangelism.
He noted that only about one percent of Christians serve as formal evangelists or preachers, while the remaining majority spread the gospel through their daily conduct in workplaces, politics, homes and communities.
Oh commended the First Lady for what he described as exemplary leadership and faith-driven service, describing her as “the Esther of her generation.”
He added that Christians should lead society with humility, love and service, while emphasising Africa’s growing role in the future of global Christianity.
The visit concluded with prayers offered for the First Lady and for lasting peace and unity in Nigeria.
