IGP Disu Presents ₦2.4bn Insurance Cheques to Families of Fallen Police Officers
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has presented cheques worth over ₦2.4 billion to families and next-of-kin of deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.
The presentation, which benefited 1,075 recipients, took place at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen welfare support for personnel and their families.
According to the police authorities, the total sum disbursed amounts to ₦2,435,421,584.11, covering policy years 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, as well as 2024/2025 and 2025/2026, including outstanding insurance claims recovered from previous years.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Force Insurance Officer, Lydia Ameh, said the disbursement demonstrates the commitment of the IGP to prioritizing the welfare of officers and their families. She explained that the payments represent recoveries from long-standing insurance obligations and assured beneficiaries that measures have been taken to ensure compliance by insurance providers and prevent delays in future claims.
Ameh further reaffirmed the dedication of the Force Insurance Unit to transparent, efficient, and accountable service delivery in the administration of welfare benefits.
In his remarks, IGP Disu described the ceremony as a solemn recognition of the sacrifices made by officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, emphasizing that personnel welfare remains a central pillar of his administration.
He noted that the gesture goes beyond financial support, stressing that it reflects the police institution’s enduring commitment to honour the courage and service of fallen officers while standing by their families.
The police chief also assured that the Force would intensify efforts to strengthen welfare frameworks, improve administrative efficiency, and eliminate delays in the processing and disbursement of benefits. He added that modern technology would be deployed to enhance transparency and streamline claims processing within the welfare system.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to the welfare of its personnel and the families of fallen officers, acknowledging that their sacrifices remain critical to the peace, security, and stability of the nation.
