International Women’s Day: All Progressives Congress in Lagos Celebrates Women, Reaffirms Commitment to Empowerment
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos has celebrated women across the state and beyond as the world marks International Women’s Day, reaffirming its commitment to policies and programmes that promote women’s empowerment and inclusion.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC joined the global community in recognising the resilience, strength, and invaluable contributions of women to societal growth and development.
According to the party, women remain the backbone of families, communities, and the economy, playing critical roles in shaping a prosperous and inclusive society.
The APC noted that successive administrations of the party in Lagos State have deliberately implemented policies and programmes aimed at empowering women and expanding opportunities for them to thrive.
The party highlighted that Lagos has consistently maintained one of the highest levels of female representation in public service, with women serving in key leadership positions including commissioners, permanent secretaries, legislators, special advisers, heads of government agencies, and High Court judges.
It added that these appointments reflect the party’s belief that inclusive leadership strengthens governance and improves policy outcomes.
The Lagos APC also pointed to several economic initiatives designed to support women entrepreneurs, traders, and artisans across the state. These include access to microcredit schemes, capacity-building programmes, and cooperative support structures aimed at strengthening women-led businesses and boosting household incomes.
According to the party, women operating in markets, small-scale enterprises, and the creative sector have benefitted significantly from these interventions.
The statement further noted that the Lagos State Government has continued to implement social protection policies that safeguard women’s rights, expand access to healthcare, and promote girl-child education.
It added that various social intervention programmes have also been introduced to support vulnerable women and families, helping to improve their livelihoods and overall wellbeing.
The APC stated that women in sectors such as agriculture, technology, education, and the creative economy have also benefitted from government-backed training programmes, grants, and innovation support initiatives aimed at unlocking their full potential.
The party maintained that these efforts demonstrate its enduring commitment to gender inclusion and women’s empowerment as a key driver of sustainable development.
“As we celebrate women across Lagos State and Nigeria on this special day, we acknowledge their courage, resilience, and outstanding contributions to building stronger families, communities, and institutions,” the statement read.
The party reaffirmed its resolve to continue supporting policies that promote women’s participation in governance, strengthen economic opportunities for women, and ensure that every girl has the opportunity to achieve her full potential.
