Interswitch Advocates Trust, Strong Infrastructure to Drive Africa’s Cross-Border Capital Flows

Interswitch Group has called for stronger trust, robust digital infrastructure, and deeper collaboration among financial stakeholders to unlock the full potential of cross-border capital flows in Africa. The payments and digital commerce company made the call at the Inclusive Fintech Forum 2026 held at the Kigali Convention Centre in Kigali, Rwanda from March 10 to 12.

Speaking during a high-level session themed “Financial Centres & the Future of Cross-Border Capital,” Akeem Lawal, Managing Director, Payments Processing & Switching at Interswitch Purepay, said trust, reliable infrastructure, and strategic partnerships are essential for the next phase of financial integration across Africa.

Lawal explained that although rapid advancements in digital technology have enabled capital to move across borders faster than ever, the direction and impact of such flows ultimately depend on the strength of financial systems and the level of confidence among institutions and users.

He noted that as African economies continue to digitize and integrate, stakeholders must focus on building resilient payment systems while promoting transparency, interoperability, and collaboration across markets.

According to him, sustainable growth in cross-border financial transactions will not rely solely on technological innovation but also on the ability of institutions to foster trust and support seamless, large-scale financial exchanges.

Throughout the forum, Interswitch reiterated its long-standing commitment to building a prosperous and interconnected African digital economy. The company emphasized its role in enabling secure, technologically advanced payment systems designed to connect individuals, businesses, governments, and communities across the continent.

Participation in the forum, the company noted, aligns with its broader strategy of strengthening regional partnerships, driving industry thought leadership, and supporting initiatives that accelerate financial inclusion and economic resilience.

As Africa’s digital finance ecosystem continues to evolve, Interswitch said it remains focused on delivering innovative solutions and partnerships that will expand economic opportunities and promote shared value creation across the continent.
