JMG Hosts UNILAG Engineering Students for World Engineering Day Factory Tour

To mark the 2026 World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, JMG Limited hosted engineering students from the University of Lagos for an educational tour of its JMG and Jamara Home production facility in Gbagada, Lagos, providing the students with practical exposure to modern engineering innovation and industrial processes.

The factory visit was organised in line with the 2026 global theme, “Smart Engineering for a Sustainable Future Through Innovation and Digitalization.”

A total of 13 engineering students from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Lagos, accompanied by two representatives from the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, participated in the immersive learning experience.

During the tour, members of the engineering team at JMG Limited guided the students through various sections of the production facility, while a dedicated Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) officer ensured strict compliance with safety standards throughout the exercise.

The students were exposed to key production processes and gained practical insights into how engineering innovation, smart systems and digital technologies are helping to drive sustainable industrial development.

The visit also featured an interactive session during which the students engaged with JMG engineers, asking questions and learning about real-world engineering applications as well as career opportunities within the engineering and manufacturing sectors.

Speaking during the tour, the Plant Manager, Production at JMG Limited, Fouad El Chami, highlighted the importance of practical industry exposure in shaping the next generation of engineers.

According to him, engineering education becomes more impactful when students can witness industrial operations firsthand.

“Engineering is best understood not only in classrooms but through real industrial experience. Opening our facility to students allows them to see innovation, technology and problem-solving in action,” he said.

He added that such initiatives help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application while inspiring young engineers to contribute to Nigeria’s industrial and technological advancement.

El Chami noted that encouraging students to embrace innovation, digitalisation and sustainable engineering practices will be crucial in shaping the future of the engineering profession.
